Ernst van Dyk

Wheelchair racing

Of all his endeavours, Ernst van Dyk is most recognised for his achievements as one of South Africa’s top track and road wheelchair racers. He competes in between six and eight high-profile marathons per year, the majority of which are international.

The undeniable highlight of Ernst’s wheelchair racing career is having won the Boston Marathon – the most prestigious wheelchair event – nine times, consecutively from 2001 to 2006 and 2008 to 2010. He was also the first wheelchair racer in this particular event to break the 1h 20 min barrier and he holds the World Best Time of 1:18.27 (2004).

Ernst never fails to impress and currently competes in approximately six international races and six local fun rides a year.
